DIFFERENCES OF İMCOMPLETE AND COMPLETE FERTILIZERS

Fertilizers carry labels with three numbers, which correspond to the primary nutrients that plants require. Abbreviated N-P-K, the acronym commonly stands for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), although the correct designation is nitrogen (N), phosphate (P2O5) and potash (K2O). The three numbers representing N-P-K are written as 10-10-10, for example, where each number corresponds to the percentage by weight of each nutrient in a bag of fertilizer. In a 40-pound bag of 5-10-5, there are 2 pounds each of nitrogen and potash and 4 pounds of phosphate. (5 percent of 40 pounds equals 2 pounds, and 10 percent of 40 pounds equals 4 pounds.) Complete fertilizers contain all three primary nutrients, but not necessarily in equal amounts. Both 10-10-10 and 5-10-5 are examples of complete fertilizers. An example of an incomplete fertilizer is 0-20-0.
