The amount of nitrogen in urea is more than other nitrogenous fertilizers. Nitrogen constitutes 46% of the urea fertilizer. Urea can be used for all plants in any period. It is suitable for both soil and foliar applications as it is a prill and granular, white colored fertilizer that is easily and abundantly soluble in water.
Since the nitrogen in it is in organic form, that is, in amide (NH2) form, it cannot be taken directly by plant roots. In order for the nitrogen in its amide form to become useful for plants, it must first be converted into the form of ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N) by the bacteria in the soil. For this reason, urea fertilizer is considered among the slow acting / controlled release fertilizers.
