THERE WILL be no need of buying costly detergent powder for removal of fat stains from clothes. The biochemistry department of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak, a leading department in the field of research, has evolved a formula for best use of enzyme used in the costly detergent powder. With the use of this formula, the cost of removal of fat stains of clothes will be reduced to a large extent compared to that by costly detergent. In view of the importance of this research of the biochemistry department, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) New Delhi has published it in its journal,
 
That is why, various have been approached by the MDU officials for commercialisation of this research. If the deal approach is finalised, the cheaper detergents (non enzymic detergents) will become more popular than costly detergents (enzymic detergents), which will not only remove the fat stains of clothes more easily compare to that by costly detergent but also provide better washing of clothes.
 
In order to prove this research as practical and applied one, the teachers, scientist and students/ research scholars of bio-chemistry department have tested this new formula repeatedly and the every time result was better than that by costly detergent. The costly detergent powder being sold in the market is a mixture of chemical detergent and enzymes, which constitute 90 per cent and 10 per cent of the powder respectively. The enzymes are being mixed in the detergent for easy removal of stains from clothes. Hence the cost of enzymic detergents is higher than that of ordinary detergents. However there is a drawback of this enzymic detergent that it provides the single use of enzymes.
 
 Nevertheless, according to the research formula evolved by MDU, if the enzymes are used in immobilised form in chemical detergent, it could not only used more efficiently but also reused 100 times. The repeated use of the same quantity of enzyme in detergent would reduce the cost of washing.
 
According to research carried out at biochemistry department, an enzyme, lipase is immobilised onto the inner wall of a plastic beaker with the help of some specific chemicals, which provided the reuse of enzyme. This enzyme can also be immobilised onto the inner wall of washing chamber of a washing machine, which is generally made up of plastic. By immobilising this enzyme onto the lower part of sidewall or onto the bottom of washing chamber, if the clothes are washed with an ordinary and cheapen detergent (non enzymic detergent), the results are even better than those by costly detergents.
 
The important fact of this research is that the enzyme get fixed on the surface of plastic chamber and provides 100 washings along with ordinary detergent powder similarly to that by costly detergent. This enzyme can be reused for a longer period of this is stored at low temperature. If it is not stored at low temperature, the re-usability of the enzyme gets reduced and possibility of its getting inactive became more.
 
The dean of faculty of life Science and professor and In charge of biochemistry department, Dr Chander Shekhar Pundir has informed that this research was carried out by his student, Sarita and Sandhya Arya under this guidance. He told that lipase is being used in its free form in detergent available in the market, for easy removal of fat stain of clothes. The enzyme in its free form can be used once. However it can be re-used 100 times, if it is immobilised. He informed that he was negotiating with Hindustan Lever regarding this research. In case if negotiation get finalsed, this immobilised enzyme would be available in the market as a product.
