The main use of foamed concrete is for trench reinstatement and void filling, for example, filling in old storage tanks, sewers, pipelines, basements and natural voids in landscaping. This is ideal as it flows freely under it’s own weight so it quickly spreads to fill any gaps, and as it does not need to be compacted, it is great for larger areas as workers will not be exposed to the ‘white finger’ risk.
The fire resistant properties of foamed concrete have lead to it being favoured for a range of uses, including firewalls. It can also be favoured as a thermal insulating material, on walls, floors and, because of its lightweight properties, it can be used to insulate roofs too.
Foamed concrete is ideal for filling the space around pipes and tunnels, protecting them and keeping them insulated in colder environments. As it imposes no significant lateral load, it will not crush any structures it surrounds.
Foamed concrete is also often used for bridge foundations, to enhance soil stability on slopes and improve load bearing with cast-in-place piles.
